Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - The Hessian trade has criticized the extension of the lockdown until the end of January and warned of the loss of thousands of jobs.

Disenchantment is spreading in the industry, complained Jochen Ruths, President of the Hesse Trade Association, on Tuesday.

"Many feel left alone by the state government."

You now need a perspective.

In the largely failed Christmas business alone, retail in the country lost around half a billion euros in sales.

In the whole of 2020 it was around 2.8 billion euros.

Companies could no longer compensate for this without help.

"The state government must provide the necessary support," demanded Sven Rohde, managing director of the Hesse trade association.

However, the promised aid would not be paid out because the access barriers were far too complicated and too high.

"The now tightened lockdown has fatal consequences for the survival of small and medium-sized trading companies and endangers thousands of jobs".
