China News Service, January 5 (AFP) According to a report by Agence France-Presse, a spokesperson for the Iranian government stated on January 4 that the country has begun to increase its enriched uranium abundance to 20%.

In this regard, the EU pledged on the 5th to work hard to save the Iran nuclear agreement.

On January 4, the spokesperson of the Iranian government, Ali Rabie, stated that Iran has begun to implement measures to increase the enrichment of uranium to 20% at the Fordo nuclear facility.

Rabie said that the Iranian side had reported the above actions to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

According to reports, EU spokesman Peter Stano said on the 5th that the EU is “deeply concerned” about the measures taken by Iran and insisted that “we will redouble our efforts to safeguard the agreement so that all parties can fully implement the agreement”.

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany.

According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran.

The US government unilaterally withdrew from the Iran nuclear agreement in May 2018, and then restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran.

Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some of the terms of the agreement, including increasing the abundance of enriched uranium to 4.5%, which is higher than the 3.67% stipulated in the Iran nuclear agreement, but it has promised that the measures taken are "reversible."

According to IAEA regulations, the abundance of civil-grade enriched uranium is up to 20%.
