Bischofshofen (dpa) - Poland's Olympic champion Kamil Stoch also won the qualification in Bischofshofen and thus underpinned his favorite position for the overall victory in the Four Hills Tournament.

The 33-year-old jumped 138 meters in Pongau on Tuesday and landed just ahead of the two Norwegians Robert Johansson and Halvor Egner Granerud.

In the tour standings, Stoch is in the lead and is on course for his third overall victory.

His strongest rival, compatriot and defending champion Dawid Kubacki, finished sixth in qualifying.

Things were worse for the German duo Markus Eisenbichler (8th) and Karl Geiger (25th).

"The qualification jump was not so clean," said Geiger on ZDF.

In order to achieve the first German tour triumph since Sven Hannawald in 2002, Geiger would have to catch up around 14 meters on Stoch and also overtake Kubacki and Granerud.

The other four German starters Martin Hamann, Pius Paschke, Severin Freund and Constantin Schmid have also qualified for the final competition on Wednesday (4.45 p.m. / ZDF and Eurosport).
