A history and geography professor at a college in Lyon was "taken to task" by a parent of a student dissatisfied with one of his lectures on secularism.

His colleagues went on strike on Monday, reported France 3 regions and "Le Progrès".

Monday January 4, the students of the college of Battières, in the 5th arrondissement of Lyon, did not have lessons: the teachers went on strike to denounce the inaction of the rectorate in a case dating back to November.

Their colleague, a history-geography teacher, was "taken to task by a parent of a student on the content of his classes" on secularism, reported

The facts took place on November 9, a week after the tribute paid to Samuel Paty, professor assassinated in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine after a course on freedom of expression.

However, they learned before Christmas that their colleague was leaving the establishment.

No reaction from the institution

With the family refusing to apologize, the teacher filed a complaint for assault and defamation.

But while his colleagues waited for a reaction from the rectorate, "there was nothing", they explain to France 3. One of the children of the family then brought "a blunt object" to the college and was excluded one day, without going before the disciplinary council.

"In mid-December, the family would not have gone to the meeting to which they had been invited to the rectorate", also affirms

The striking teachers demanded that the situation be taken care of and deplored the fact that parents of pupils could interfere in the content of the lessons, without noticing any reaction from the institution.

The professor of history and geography would consider leaving college and retraining.
