Midwives at midwifery clinics are required to hold parent education for expectant parents, for example about how the birth goes, pain relief, breastfeeding and the time at BB.

It is also information that parents have the right to receive.

The difficulties of achieving this during the corona pandemic have been noted.

In some places, pregnant women have not had access to any parent education at all, Region Halland has been an example.

Unfortunate, not least for first-time parents.

In Västerås, midwife Elin Åberg took matters into her own hands and recorded information films.

Movies that have since been published and are available for free online and are now also used by other midwife clinics.

- It has taken a lot of time but these are films of a simpler kind.

I explain what we otherwise talk about at the parent meetings, show the different aids used during a birth, give tips about breastfeeding, explain and reinforce with text signs, she says.

The films have been appreciated and the response from the parents is good.

Many people appreciate being able to choose for themselves when they see them instead of adjusting times for physical meetings, she says.

Elin Åberg hopes that the films can be developed, translated into several languages, and remain as a complement to the parent groups even after the corona pandemic.

- A disadvantage can be that you are not allowed to meet and get to know other expectant parents.

But at the same time, it has been difficult to get participants together for the meetings even before the pandemic, she says.

Rawan Al Salti believes that the films can also be important for reaching families who are new to Sweden.
