Stuttgart / Berlin (dpa) - In Baden-Württemberg schools there will initially be no face-to-face classes after the Christmas break.

The prime ministers of the federal states agreed on Tuesday with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) to extend the lockdown at schools and daycare centers.

In Baden-Württemberg, the Christmas holidays end on Sunday for around 1.5 million students and around 130,000 teachers.

Baden-Württemberg's minister of education, Susanne Eisenmann (CDU), had demanded that daycare centers and elementary schools should be open again on January 11th - “regardless of the incidence figures”.

This was rejected by the Prime Minister with a view to the Corona numbers.

Eisenmann recently stated that she was against extending the Christmas holidays.

According to reports, pupils in secondary schools are to receive distance learning.

As in the first lockdown in spring, elementary school students should study with materials at home.

In addition, there should be emergency care for smaller children.
