Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Regardless of the low levels of vaccine so far, the opposition left in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is calling for early corona vaccination for teachers and educators as well.

«Schools and daycare centers should rightly remain open.

However, this assumes that the necessary staff is available.

The employees must therefore be vaccinated and thus protected as soon as possible, ”said left-wing parliamentary group leader Simone Oldenburg on Tuesday in Schwerin.

The Standing Vaccination Commission of the Robert Koch Institute had recommended vaccinating old people and those in need of care, caregivers and medical staff first.

However, some of these recommendations “failed to meet the requirements,” said Oldenburg.

She called on the state government to correct the vaccination strategy and publish concrete schedules for vaccinating the specified groups of people.

"In this way we also get realistic vaccination targets and the population can understand why which measures are still required," said the opposition politician.

Following the recommendations of the vaccination commission, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had started vaccinations in retirement homes and clinics and set the highest pace nationwide.

According to calculations by the Robert Koch Institute, there had been 7.1 vaccinations per 1000 inhabitants in the northeast by the weekend, which means that the national average was 3.2.

The AfD, from whose ranks the protective measures against the pandemic were repeatedly referred to as excessive, criticized the sluggish vaccine supply and the late opening of the vaccination centers.

"If large parts of the population are ready to vaccinate, the government must provide enough vaccine without obligation to care for vaccine volunteers," said parliamentary group leader Nikolaus Kramer.
