Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - The interest of the Hessian municipalities in the housing initiative "Großer Frankfurter Bogen" is increasing.

In 2020, 26 cities and municipalities had joined the program, including the major cities of Frankfurt, Wiesbaden and Offenbach, said Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) of the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden.

At the end of 2020, 35 municipalities were part of the initiative.

You are entitled to special funding for the designation of building areas and the realization of residential construction projects.

According to the minister, all municipalities that have a rail connection with a connection that takes no more than 30 minutes to Frankfurt Central Station can belong to the "Großer Frankfurter Bogen".

"The decisive obstacle in building housing is not the money, but the lack of ready-to-build space," emphasized Al-Wazir.

"With the Großer Frankfurter Bogen, we are helping the municipalities to develop attractive building areas where demand is particularly high, while at the same time keeping people's mobility in mind."

The housing initiative was launched in 2019.

The Green politician had identified a potential of 200,000 apartments with rail links in the Rhine area.

According to the minister's calculations, over 50 municipalities, including Frankfurt, fall within the radius specified in the initiative.
