Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Minister of Health Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) asked for patience in view of the slow start of the corona vaccinations and chaos on the appointment hotline.

"It's a marathon over many weeks and months," said Nonnemacher on Tuesday on the occasion of the start of the vaccination center in Potsdam.

Many have an appointment request that is not yet their turn.

It is important that only those over 80 years of age come first and book appointments via the hotline.

In response to the criticism that the vaccinations were progressing too slowly, the minister replied that words of appreciation were needed, not complaints.

In nursing homes, for example, it takes time to obtain the necessary consent for vaccinations.

From the second half of the year, the vaccine could be in general practitioners' practices.

Potsdam and Cottbus are the first two of eleven planned vaccination centers to open. Initially, citizens over the age of 80 and employees from outpatient services will be vaccinated.

There were long waiting times and technical problems at the appointment hotline on Monday.
