Potsdam (dpa) - According to the President of the Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK), Britta Ernst (SPD), the corona agreements of the federal and state governments offer leeway for the question of how to deal with schools.

"The KMK unanimously agreed on Monday that in the federal states where the infection process allows, the primary schools can return to face-to-face teaching in a first stage," the Brandenburg Education Minister told the German Press Agency in Potsdam on Tuesday.

This is not explicitly reflected in the decision of the heads of government at the federal and state levels.

"However, the resolution offers leeway that can be used accordingly in the federal states."

The culture ministers see themselves as advocates for good education in Germany, for whom every lesson counts, said Ernst.

The federal and state governments had agreed that schools and day-care centers should remain largely closed until at least the end of January or only offer limited operation.

On January 14, Ernst will officially take over the presidency from the Rhineland-Palatinate Education Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD).

Ernst wants to place its chairmanship under the theme "Teaching and learning and good teaching in the times of digital transformation".
