Berlin (dpa) - The parliamentary group of the FDP has asked the government to support children of needy families with a meal payment.
"Disadvantaged children must not fall below the subsistence level in the pandemic due to school closings," said the socio-political spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group, Pascal Kober, of the editorial network Germany on Tuesday.
It must be ensured that the amount for school meals with children in the basic security is received - and as unbureaucratically as possible.
Children and young people from families in need are entitled to a free lunch, for example at school.
When schools closed for the first time last year due to the corona pandemic, the federal government decided that municipalities could deliver lunches for children and young people from financially weak families to their homes.

Kober criticized that this measure was not checked enough: "Hubertus Heil has no idea whether the children also got lunch," he said of the SPD labor minister.
Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) is discussing this Tuesday with the Prime Ministers of the federal states about an extension of the hard lockdown decided in mid-December with the closure of most shops, hotels and restaurants as well as schools and daycare centers.
Because the number of infections remains high, the majority of the prime ministers and the federal government are in favor of extending the existing measures until the end of January.
It is still unclear how exactly one will proceed with the schools and daycare centers.
