Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to Social Affairs Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD), the corona pandemic has made clear the deficits in the equal participation of women and men in work and family life.

It is true that the federal and state governments have improved the framework conditions in recent years to make it possible to reconcile private and professional life, Drese told the German press agency.

But the inequalities persist.

This year Drese is chairing the conference of gender equality and women ministers of the federal states.

According to the previous plans, the meeting of the ministers and two ministers is planned for June 23 and 24, 2021 in Rostock.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, except for Manne Lucha in Baden-Württemberg and Minister of State Kai Klose in Hesse (both Greens), only women are responsible for equal rights in the federal and state levels.

For example, the best reconciliation measures would not have brought the area of unpaid care work any further.

"Women carry the greater burden in the Corona crisis," said Drese.

In order to create real equality and to guarantee women a living wage and economic independence, something has to change there.

That is why the improvement of equal participation of women and men in work and family life is one of the main goals of this year's conference chairmanship.

It is about the partnership-based division of gainful employment and care work, emphasized Drese.

Four large areas with different requirements were identified for the specialist work.

For example, professions in areas such as social work, health, upbringing and education should be upgraded.

Furthermore, it is about the expansion of childcare or care as well as the demands for the abolition of spouse splitting.

In addition, ways should be found to empower women in economic and political positions.
