05 January 2021 "This morning we are 179 thousand people who have been vaccinated" against Covid-19.

"So the number is far from irrelevant. Just two days ago we were 84 thousand, in 48 hours we vaccinated 95 thousand people. As in all things at the beginning we need a period of acceleration, but remember that the Italy after Germany is now the second country in Europe for number of vaccinations and there are countries that have not even started or have made a limited number "of shield injections.

This was underlined by the president of the Higher Health Council (Css), Franco Locatelli, today at 'Agorà' on Rai3.

"In this moment - the expert pointed out - there are significant regional differences. The hope and the invitation is to fill them as soon as possible".

There are, Locatelli pointed out, "three Regions that still have a single figure of percentage vaccinated this morning. The numbers must be increased, also because in one of these regions the vaccination sites identified are so many and there are all the conditions to be able to do so. do. These differences must also be bridged because every week approximately 470 thousand doses will arrive throughout the country ".

Locatelli recalled the importance of continuing to wear the mask even after the vaccine "because we do not yet have sufficiently rigorous data to draw conclusions on sterilizing immunity", on the ability to "prevent asymptomatic infections" and therefore there is no certainty on the fact that you cannot infect others.

As for the doses available, "we keep in mind that only with Pfizer and Moderna the country has more than 61 million doses available - Locatelli recalled - These are absolutely important figures. Already in the first quarter of the year we have 12 million doses that are available to ensure coverage of those categories that have been identified as priority now, therefore health workers from hospitals and RSAs and RSA guests to then move on to the over 80s and gradually go down in age and offer vaccination also to law enforcement and teachers to guarantee the maximum safety of schools reopening ".

"I hope that 2021 will be significantly better than the year we have put behind us", is the hope expressed by Locatelli who recalled the moment of his vaccination.

"It was an important moment for me", he said, highlighting the hope that "my example could really be an incentive for all Italians because it is clear that only through vaccinations will we be able to emancipate ourselves from this situation. I absolutely did not have no problem "after the vaccine.

"Not even pain at the injection site which can be considered among the side effects, along with fever, bone and joint pain and possibly headache."

The Pfizer vaccine "commercially available today, but it will not be different even for the vaccine that will be evaluated tomorrow, that is Moderna, provides two administrations, gives a coverage of 95% and therefore it must be said with transparency that there is a 5% of subjects who do not respond adequately to vaccination and immune coverage with respect to the new coronavirus occurs from 7 days after "the second injection, concluded the expert.

"This morning we are over 179 thousand people vaccinated, so numbers that are far from irrelevant. We remember that Italy is now the second country in Europe for the number of vaccinations".
