The Iranian side has raised claims that Korean ships captured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard should compensate for maritime pollution.

According to Iran's semi-governmental Mehr news agency, Iranian Maritime Association Chairman Masud Polme said, "A Korean ship was arrested for repeated environmental violations," and "must pay compensation for environmental pollution."

However, President Polme did not mention specific cases of environmental pollution or the amount of compensation.

Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard captured the Korean national ship'Korea Chemie' in the Gulf waters around 10 am yesterday (4th).

Tasnim News, Ban Kwan-young of Iran, quoted the deputy head of the Hormozgan Maritime Organization, saying, "The Korean Chemie caused massive marine pollution in the sea area 17 km from Greater Tunbe Island."

However, DM Shipping, a shipping company of Korea Chemie, has completely denied allegations of marine pollution.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea invited the Iranian ambassador to protest and demanded that ships and crew be lifted of detention as soon as possible, and the Ministry of Defense also urgently deployed the Cheonghae unit Choi Young-ship in the waters near the Strait of Hormuz.
