Have people died after being vaccinated against Covid-19, and was the injection the cause of their death?

While the coronavirus vaccine campaign is illustrated by its slowness in France, the consequences and possible side effects - a few million people have already been vaccinated across the world - are being scrutinized on social networks.

On Twitter, many publications report the death of at least three people after being vaccinated against Covid-19 - Tom Hollmann

Switzerland, Portugal, Israel ... According to several publications on Twitter, at least three people from these three countries died shortly after receiving a first dose.

No causal link demonstrated in Israel

In Beit She'an, northeast Israel, a 75-year-old man died of a heart attack on Monday, December 28, two hours after being inoculated with the first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine against Covid-19.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has confirmed the death, and said the man had already suffered from several heart attacks in the past.

According to the

Jerusalem Post

, Health Minister Chezy Levy immediately ordered an investigation into the causes of death.

The first results do not show a direct causal link between the death of the man and his vaccination, reports the daily.

As of Sunday, 1.22 million people had already been vaccinated in Israel, according to the Our World In Data site, which compiles global immunization data.

The link between the vaccine and a death in Lucerne (Switzerland) "highly unlikely"

A 91-year-old man died five days after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine in Lucerne, Switzerland, according to an article by Zeitpunkt.

According to the news site, the resident of a facility for people with dementia was vaccinated on December 24.

In a statement, Swissmedic, the Swiss Institute for Therapeutic Products, said Wednesday, December 30, that the existence of a link between the recent death of a nonagenarian person "who suffered from serious previous diseases" and the vaccine was "highly unlikely".

Still according to the press release, the Institute believes that the investigations it has carried out, as well as those led by the cantonal health authorities, indicate "a natural cause of death", as could be noted on "the death certificate" of the patient.

The city of Lucerne was the first Swiss city to launch its campaign via the vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech.

Informed of the death of a patient, the Pfizer laboratory told Reuters news agency that "unvaccine-related deaths are unfortunately likely to occur at a rate similar to that of the general elderly population and at risk who are currently priority for vaccination ”.

Autopsy results expected after death in Portugal

Sónia Azevedo, a 41-year-old operational assistant at the Porto Institute of Oncology (IPO), died suddenly two days after being vaccinated against Covid-19.

The IPO, which confirmed this information with the

Jornal de Notícias

, explained that the agent had received the vaccine on December 30 and that no "adverse effects had been reported at the time of vaccination, nor in the days that followed ”.

Like her, 538 Institute employees have been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

For the moment, there is no evidence to link vaccination and death.

The family of the victim, who "asks for answers", expects a lot from the autopsy of their daughter, which was to take place on Tuesday, underlines the

Correio da Manhã

.

“She spent New Year's Eve with us and it was good,” Sónia's father, Abílio Azevedo said on a daily basis.

She was vaccinated, but she did not complain about anything.

I don't understand what happened.
