Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Senate Department for Education assumes that the platform Lernraum Berlin will function stably again.

There were significant problems with it on Monday after the end of the Christmas break.

On Twitter, among other things, there were numerous comments, some of them angry, about long waiting times or that it was not possible to register.

On Tuesday, at least a lot of the content for online lessons could not be found immediately.

But there were no problems in the dimensions of the day before.

The access numbers were very high, said the spokesman for the education administration, Martin Klesmann.

"And the work there works."

On Monday, the high number of users meant that the learning room was hardly accessible, admitted Klesmann.

The Zuse Institute Berlin, where the server for the learning room is located, provided three high-performance computers that were actually intended for other purposes, so that the learning room is currently stable again and can be used by schools.

According to Klesmann, the learning room was quickly expanded in the weeks after the first lockdown in spring.

Despite the significantly increased number of users, there were no problems worth mentioning.

Many more active users were added by December.

"On the first day of the second lockdown shortly before Christmas, however, the growing pains became abundantly clear: the study room was difficult to access for a day," said Klesmann.

The large number of additional users would have made much higher computing power necessary.

In addition, the software was not free from errors.

Since mid-December, the education administration has been working with additional external service providers who have tried to improve the open source software over Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Furthermore, parallel to routine operations, work is being carried out on a leaner restructuring of the learning room program.
