The reception opened in October and after only a few weeks, about 20 had come here.
Almost all have applied for self-referral, and almost all are men.
- You always hear - my teenager plays a lot of computer games - and based on that you can imagine that there are very many young people who come, but so far we have seen a slightly different picture, says Annika Hofstedt, unit manager at the reception for gambling addiction and screen health .
Average age around 30
When the patients have now started to flock, the average age is around 30 years with a range between 20 and 50 years.
- You can imagine that it will be more problem to spend a lot of time on computer games when you are older and have to come to work and studies.
Even in the country
The clinic here at Sahlgrenska is the only one in the country in the public health service that can offer treatment for computer game addiction.
It is also completely new to see this as a diagnosis, last year the WHO for the first time classified computer game addiction as a psychiatric diagnosis.
- There is little knowledge about the diagnosis itself and there are no Swedish treatment models for this, so in parallel with running treatment, we also research the treatment, the patient group and the problems, says Annika Hofstedt.
