Potsdam (dpa / bb) - The hotline for making appointments for corona vaccinations under the number 116 117 was completely overloaded in Brandenburg at the beginning.

"We have been overrun by an extremely large number of calls - over 10,000 pieces in the morning," said the vice-chairman of the Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Holger Rostek, in Potsdam on Monday.

He asked that only people over 80 should call and not younger people who were not yet eligible for vaccination.

Appointments are only given for vaccinations in centers that are open this week and the next.

The vaccination centers in Potsdam and Cottbus start this Tuesday, the center in Schönefeld should start on January 11th.

At first there were also technical problems with the dial-in, said the vice-executive committee.

An increase in the number of employees in the call center from currently 150 is being examined.

If there are further technical problems, an alternative telephone number will be announced.

The waiting time for appointments was half an hour to an hour early Monday afternoon.

Appointments have so far been made for almost 400 people - two appointments are required per person.

Eleven vaccination centers are to be set up by early February.

At the same time, vaccinations for residents and staff in nursing homes as well as medical staff are carried out.
