The National Forestry and Grass Administration announced today (4th) that in the past five years, my country has systematically implemented endangered species rescue projects and established various nature reserves covering 18% of the country's land area, effectively protecting 90% of vegetation types and terrestrial ecosystems. , 65% of the higher plant communities, 85% of the key protected wildlife populations, the populations of rare and endangered wild animals and plants such as giant pandas, crested ibis, Asian elephants, Tibetan antelopes, cycads, and Tibetan giant cypresses have achieved restoration growth.

The wild population of giant pandas increased to 1864, the total number of wild and artificially bred populations of crested ibis exceeded 4000, the wild population of Asian elephants increased to 300, and the wild population of Tibetan antelopes recovered to more than 300,000.

During the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period, my country has continuously strengthened the protection of endangered wildlife by strengthening wildlife habitat protection and rescue breeding, and established stable artificial breeding populations for more than 300 rare and endangered wildlife.

Among them, the number of artificially bred giant pandas achieved rapid and high-quality growth. During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, 258 live giant pandas were bred, and the total number of artificial captive populations reached 633.

A large number of wild animals such as giant pandas, elk, crested ibis, forest musk deer, white-necked long-tailed pheasants, and black langurs have been released to nature, and the release area and scope have been continuously expanded, especially wild horses and elk that have disappeared in the wild in my country , The wild population has been re-established, and 9 artificially bred giant pandas have been released to nature and successfully integrated into the wild population.

my country has also adopted measures such as in-situ conservation, ex-situ conservation, and return to nature to continue the protection of rare and endangered wild plants.

Rescue protection of nearly a hundred species of wild plants with extremely small populations, such as Debao Cycas, Huagao, Baishanzu fir, Tiantai Carpinus, Putuo Carpinus, has gradually restored the populations of some endangered species.

At present, my country has built nearly 200 botanical gardens of all levels and types, collecting and conserving more than 20,000 species, accounting for 2/3 of my country's flora.

The collection and preservation of the germplasm resources of rare wild plants such as cycads, palms and key orchids and Magnoliaceae native to my country have been basically completed.

About 120 species returned in the wild, most of which are endemic to my country.

In the past five years, my country has continuously improved the wildlife protection and management system and severely cracked down on illegal trade.

Revised the Wildlife Protection Law twice, accelerated the adjustment of the "List of National Key Protected Wild Animals" and "List of National Key Protected Wild Plants", and formulated and implemented related supporting management systems.

An inter-ministerial joint conference system for combating illegal trade in wildlife has been established to jointly combat illegal and criminal activities that destroy wildlife.

Carry out special operations to combat the rectification and destruction of wild plants, and severely crack down on the indiscriminate mining of wild plants, the destruction of the growth environment of wild plants, and the illegal operation and utilization of wild plants.

At the same time, my country is speeding up the construction of an active early warning and monitoring system for wild animal epidemic diseases, and has established a wildlife epidemic disease monitoring and control network with 742 national monitoring stations as the main body and a large number of provincial (city, county) monitoring stations as supplements. The “terrestrial wild animal epidemic source disease monitoring, prevention and control information management system” was launched, and the active monitoring and early warning of key wild animal diseases such as avian influenza and African swine fever were continued to build a wild animal pathogen library.

Successfully controlled 79 wild animal outbreaks such as Shaanxi giant panda canine distemper, Ningxia rock sheep small ruminant pestilence, Jilin wild boar African swine fever, and Xinjiang H5N6 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza, without major risks such as spreading.

In order to maintain the safety and biological safety of wild animal populations, effectively prevent major public health risks, and effectively protect the lives and health of the people, it has played the role of frontier checkpoints and barriers.

my country has further strengthened international cooperation in wildlife protection, fulfilled its obligations under relevant international conventions, established cooperative relationships with 18 countries and 11 international protection organizations, actively implemented wildlife protection foreign aid projects, and led the organization or participated in the development of "tooth blade". Such a series of global strikes have enhanced my country’s international influence and contributed to the promotion of global biodiversity conservation and Chinese wisdom and power.
