Regensburg (dpa) - Almost a year after the first corona cases in Germany, the first self-help groups of post-Covid patients are founded.

Above all, it is about talking about what you have experienced, supporting each other in recovery and collecting professional information, said Karl Baumann, who founded one of the first groups nationwide in Regensburg.

The group wanted to meet for the second time on Wednesday.

Another is to arise immediately: There is great interest, 20 people affected are there - too many for an online meeting.

Baumann is convinced that “there is a huge wave coming to our health system”.

The treatment costs are not yet foreseeable.

The 52-year-old entrepreneur from Wenzenbach near Regensburg, previously completely healthy, fell ill in March.

He was attached to the heart-lung machine, suffered a stroke in a coma and barely survived.

"Back then, hardly anyone believed that I would come back," he says today.

"There is a lot to work through."

When and whether he will be able to work fully again is open.

At Baumann, several organs were affected, in addition to the lungs, the heart, kidneys and liver.

"It's a systemic disease."

To this day, not all of his values are normal.

And it's also about the psyche.

«You have to work through the trauma.

It's tedious. "

Despite the mild course, his wife suffers from exhaustion, difficulty concentrating and finding words.

When he talks to her, it is sometimes "like comedy nobility," he says.
