Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringians who want to visit their relatives in old people's and nursing homes do not have to pay for the soon-to-be-mandatory corona rapid test out of their own pocket.

The Thuringian Ministry of Health announced on request in Erfurt on Monday that the financing was provided by the health or care insurance.

The Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis and Eichsfeld already introduced mandatory testing on Sunday by ordinance.

The city of Weimar wants to follow suit this Tuesday.

The three municipalities introduced compulsory testing before a state-wide regulation that Health Minister Heike Werner (Linke) has promised for January 10th.

Some federal states already have such an obligation.

According to the Thuringian Ministry of Health, the financing of the tests for old people's home visitors is regulated in an ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Health.

According to this, every nursing home resident is entitled to up to 20 rapid tests per month.

These tests are intended for residents' visitors.

In the three municipalities, visitors to old people's and nursing homes have to undergo a rapid corona test on site.

They may only occur if the result is negative.

Masks are still required in the homes.

In addition, if there is a high number of new corona infections, each resident may only be visited by a single, permanently registered person.
