It also concerns parks, stadiums, public transport stops and cemeteries in the Lombard city.

The ban was initially supposed to be put in place on January 1.

The local authorities finally decided to postpone it in order to better inform residents about the city's effort to preserve the environment and air quality through this measure and other regulations.

Limit energy expenditure

In addition to the ban on smoking near other people, the city council has also introduced the end of diesel boilers from October 2022. In order to limit energy costs related to heating and air conditioning, stores in Milan must also keep their doors closed starting next year.

Wood-fired ovens used by certain restaurants are also subject to regulation.

As for the rules relating to the consumption of cigarettes, their aim is to fight against active and passive smoking and to limit the emission of toxic particles.

It will also be completely forbidden to smoke outside in Milan from 2025.
