Kiel (dpa / lno) - Schleswig-Holstein's Prime Minister Daniel Günther expects the corona lockdown to be extended until the end of the month.

The CDU politician made this clear on Monday in Kiel.

"I think it is unlikely that we can come to any significant easing in Germany in the course of January," said Günther to the NDR.

The situation in other federal states is certainly more dramatic than in Schleswig-Holstein.

"But we also have an infection rate that is far too high at the moment."

The currently valid lockdown with many closed facilities is limited to next Sunday (10.1.).

The Prime Minister of the federal states and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) want to decide on Tuesday how things will continue afterwards in view of the continued high number of infections.

The state parliament will discuss the resolutions in a special session on Thursday.

A more precise prognosis about the further development was only possible in mid-January, said Günther the NDR.

"So there is still no perspective in January," he said, looking at possible easing.

Then there would have to be talk of possible gradual easing.

In the north, too, the situation in the hospitals is not easy.

In the case of schools and daycare centers, the basic principle is to be the last to close and the first to open them again, said the head of government.

If the infection process develops positively by the middle of the month, face-to-face teaching and real support could be possible there again.

"It is clear that face-to-face teaching and full presence in the daycare centers at least in the week from January 11th is out of the question at the moment."

The infection numbers are too high for that.

“But in fact we will then discuss the point in time from which an earlier opening is possible - and yes: We are already making sure that these openings take place significantly earlier than the entire three-week period that we are now going to set. »
