Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival can rely on a loyal audience that, despite the corona pandemic, does not lose hope for a summer full of music.

The advance booking of tickets for the three-month classical music festival, which began in November, is going as well as last year, said director Ursula Haselböck on Monday in Schwerin.

In addition, the solidarity of music lovers is great.

Thanks to the encouragement, the willingness to donate and the public funding, it was possible to survive the crisis year 2020.

"That we can go into the new year, which is still uncertain for culture, with the financial backing of the country, is a great comfort," said Haselböck.

The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Festival will receive up to 1.5 million euros in corona aid from the state in 2021.

The Ministry of Education announced a few days ago that this should compensate for a possible deficit and secure the festival's continued existence.

According to Haselböck, donations from music fans and sponsors made a significant contribution to covering the deficit in 2020.

A private rescue parachute was able to be set up for over one million euros.

More than a third of this was collected because ticket buyers waived a full refund of the money after the concerts were canceled.

The festival summer 2020, for which more than 150 events were planned, took place with a significantly reduced program.

Instead of the usual 80,000, only 5600 concert-goers were counted.

The additional organized winter festival with 30 concerts and the New Year's concerts also had to be canceled.

It remains to be seen whether the 2021 spring festival on Rügen can take place as planned from March 19 to 28.

The program was put together by the Berlin Armida Streich Quartet.

The festival summer should start on June 12th.

According to Haselböck, around 145 events are planned until September 18.

The violist Nils Mönkemeyer will give 25 concerts as a prize winner in residence.

As a reaction to the ongoing uncertainty, the Klassikfestival allows ticket buyers to postpone payments until the end of April if they so wish, said Haselböck.
