A violent explosion occurred this Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in a henhouse in the town of Essé, south-east of Rennes, we learned from the firefighters.

The 1,400 m² farm building was completely destroyed in the fire.

The accident left one dead, a 68-year-old woman.

According to

France Bleu Armorique

, the victim was with his 49-year-old son in a technical room adjoining the henhouse when the explosion occurred.

They were both preparing the premises before a delivery of poultry.

The son was not injured.

Forty firefighters from several barracks in the department were mobilized for this intervention which is still ongoing.

An investigation, entrusted to the research brigade of the gendarmerie of Vitré and the gendarmerie brigade of Janzé, was opened to try to determine the causes of the explosion which ravaged the farm building.

Rennes criminal identification technicians are also on site.
