January 03, 2021 - One person died and at least one other was injured in a church shooting, the Starrville Methodist, in Winona, Texas.

This was announced in a note by the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott.

"Our hearts are with the victims and families of those killed or injured in this terrible tragedy," the governor said.

A spokesman for the County Sheriff, Sergeant Larry Christian, told CNN that a suspect has been arrested.

At the moment, the reason for the gesture is not known.

The police announced that the shooting took place when no religious services were held and ruled out an act of hatred.

According to the information available, it was not possible to have a comment from the Methodist church.

Numerous police officers stood outside the church, which was marked out with yellow tape in the late Sunday morning.

Winona is a small town about 100 miles east of Dallas, Texas.

The Starrville Methodist Church was built in 1853, according to the Texas State Historical Association.
