Augsburg (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Minister of Culture Michael Piazolo (Free Voters) has spoken out against opening Bavaria's schools after the end of the holidays on January 10th.

"When I look at the current infection numbers, I am not assuming general classroom instruction for everyone," said Piazolo of the "Augsburger Allgemeine" (Monday).

Should the deliberations and resolutions of the conference of ministers of education in all federal states on this Monday and the conference of the ministerial presidents on Tuesday not correspond to Bavarian ideas, Piazolo can imagine a Bavarian special way for schools.

"Education is a matter of the state, it may well be that Bavaria ultimately implements its own school policy ideas."

Baden-Württemberg's minister of education, Susanne Eisenmann (CDU), had previously suggested, like the SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, that at least primary schools should be reopened from January 11th.

Piazolo, on the other hand, prefers so-called alternating lessons for elementary schools after the holidays - that is, lessons in alternating, smaller groups.

"Alternating classes would be an opportunity for the youngest to stay at least partially in personal contact with the teachers," said the Bavarian minister of education in the newspaper.

With regard to all types of schools, Piazolo advocates a differentiated system of alternating and distance teaching, graded according to the age of the pupils and the type of school.
