The Israeli newspaper, Yediot Aharonot, said today, Sunday, that unknown assailants infiltrated an ammunition depot at an army training base in the northern Negev, and seized more than 93,000 bullets.

She added that the robbery took place last week at the National Army Training Center near a kibbutz (cooperative farm) called Taslim, a sprawling camp that has witnessed dozens of weapons thefts over the past decade.

And there is talk of one of the largest ammunition theft in the history of the Israeli army, and it involved more than 93,000 rounds of 5.56 mm, according to the same source.

To break into the ammunition store of the ground forces, the thieves took advantage of several security flaws in the protection system and were aware in advance of the security measures in place.

Within a few minutes, hundreds of boxes of ammunition were loaded onto the cars, in preparation for selling them for millions of shells on the crime market in Israel, according to the same source.

So far, no suspects have been arrested in the case, in light of the possibility that the thieves may have received assistance from inside, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.

For its part, the occupation army said that a storming of an ammunition warehouse was discovered in one of its bases (south) during which ammunition was stolen, and the military police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and at the end of which the results will be presented to the military prosecution.

During the past few years, military bases of the occupation army witnessed dozens of theft of weapons and ammunition, especially those in the south.
