Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - An unknown man robbed a 17-year-old pedestrian in Frankfurt / Main, strangled him and pushed him into the Nidda river.

As the police announced on Sunday, the youngster was able to save himself from the water.

He was slightly injured in the incident and was admitted to hospital.

According to the police, the 17-year-old was on the Praunheimer Bridge in Frankfurt on Friday afternoon when the stranger asked him to surrender his backpack.

The person addressed refused and was then suddenly attacked.

In the subsequent scramble, the victim finally fell to the ground, where the attacker strangled him.

"The perpetrator then kicked the 17-year-old in the head and carried him down the embankment into the Nidda," it continues.

The perpetrator was able to flee undetected with his prey.

The police are looking for witnesses.
