Mühlhausen (dpa / th) - The Unstrut-Hainich district is the first district in Thuringia with a corona test obligation for visitors to old people's and nursing homes.

It will apply from Sunday, the district administration announced on Saturday in Mühlhausen.

A corresponding ordinance was issued by District Administrator Harald Zanker (SPD).

Afterwards, visitors to retirement and nursing homes and residential complexes for people with disabilities must undergo a quick test.

They may only occur if the result is negative.

Mask requirement and other corona rules continue to apply in the homes.

Thuringia's Ministry of Health announced such a mandatory test nationwide.

However, it should only be included in the country's next special corona ordinance, which is expected to come into force on January 10th.

However, district administrators and mayors were given the option to order mandatory testing for old people's home visitors earlier.

In Lower Saxony, the Corona Ordinance already provides for mandatory testing for staff and visitors to homes if there are many new infections in the region.

In the Thuringian nursing and senior citizens' homes, there had been a high number of infections with the corona virus over and over again in the past few days and weeks.

The Unstrut-Hainich district is currently one of the Corona hotspots in Thuringia.

The number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days is currently 400.
