Berlin (dpa / bb) - Berliners who are at least 90 years old and have an appointment at the vaccination center in Berlin-Treptow can take a taxi there free of charge.
The spokeswoman for the vaccination centers Berlin project, Regina Kneiding, announced on Saturday.
The vaccinations in the arena hall in the Treptow-Köpenick district are to be continued on Monday (January 4th).
The next group is around 18,700 people in Berlin aged 90 and over.
Anyone who has received an invitation and has made an appointment for the vaccination against the coronavirus can book a taxi for the free return trip on 030 202020, said Kneiding.
A corresponding agreement was concluded between the German Red Cross (DRK) Berlin, the Senate Department for Health and the guild of the Berlin taxi industry.
The costs would be billed through the DRK social welfare organization.
The regulation should also apply in the future if more of the six Berlin vaccination centers are put into operation.
The vaccination center in Treptow, the largest in the capital with 80 vaccination booths, was the first to start - but closed over New Year's Eve up to and including Sunday.
So far, mainly employees of senior citizens' and nursing homes in Berlin have been vaccinated there.

It was originally planned to start vaccinations for older people aged 80 and over who do not live in the nursing home at the beginning of the year in the arena in Treptow.
