Baden-Baden (dpa / lsw) - The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has sharply criticized the proposal to reopen schools in Baden-Württemberg from January 11th.

If lessons were to take place in schools again, all the work of the past few weeks would have been in vain, Lauterbach said on Saturday to Südwestrundfunk (SWR) in Baden-Baden.

He was directed against the proposal of the Minister of Education, Susanne Eisenmann.

The CDU politician had called for kindergartens and elementary schools to be reopened from January 11th regardless of the number of infections - and this also if the lockdown was to be extended beyond January 10th.

"With the attitude we could have saved ourselves all that here," Lauterbach told the SWR.

For the SPD health expert, a return to face-to-face teaching, for example with a view to the medical staff in intensive care units, would be irresponsible.

Such an attitude cannot be conveyed to the people who work there.

Instead, Lauterbach suggested that face-to-face teaching be suspended for a longer period from the intermediate level.

For this, the summer vacation should be shortened if necessary.

Relaxation can only be discussed at daycare centers and primary schools.

Minister Eisenmann recently reiterated her call for schools to open soon.

In addition to the SPD, there was also criticism from the GEW education union.

Their boss Marlies Tepe had asked for clarification quickly.

Daycare centers, schools and universities need time to prepare.

The GEW boss also advocated alternating lessons in small groups.
