Wernigerode (dpa / sa) - The city of Wernigerode has advised against trips to the Harz Mountains.

The city announced on Saturday that the number of visitors has increased due to the winter weather.

This leads to long traffic jams and crowded parking spaces - including in the Wernigerode district of Schierke.

In addition, cafes, restaurants and cable cars are closed due to the corona.

There are crowds in the few public toilets and toboggan areas.

"We therefore ask the Harz visitors to refrain from visiting the Harz", announced the city.

Snow can also be expected in the lowlands in the coming days.

It is important to comply with the corona rules in order to contain the spread of the virus.
