Göttingen (dpa / lni) - A car drove over the built-up traffic island of a roundabout in Göttingen and fell down a slope.

The 33-year-old passenger died at the scene of the accident, as the police announced.

The background to the accident on Saturday afternoon was initially unclear.

The 25-year-old driver from North Rhine-Westphalia suffered serious injuries and his driver's license was confiscated.

After driving over the traffic island in the Holtenser roundabout at the Autobahn junction Göttingen-Nord and crashing down a slope, the car overturned.

According to the police, the roundabout was closed for about five hours.

The public prosecutor hired an expert and had the accident vehicle confiscated.
