CNN broadcast reported that the price of the cryptocurrency bitcoin has risen, surpassing the record high of $33,000 (about 35.8 million won) on the 2nd (local time).

Bitcoin's price has steadily risen amid the stock market crash in the early days of the coronavirus outbreak and tripled over the past year.

Amid the weakening of the US dollar, investors are flocking to cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin.

Rick Leader, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Black Rock, an investment advisory firm, said digital currency could replace gold.

CNN pointed out that "Bitcoin may continue to gain new fans, while the Federal Reserve is expected to keep interest rates near zero for several more years."

However, Bitcoin also surpassed $20,000 in 2017, reached a record level at the time, and plunged to $3,000 in early 2019.

Nicholas Fellercanos, head of trading at the cryptocurrency company NEM, predicts that the price of bitcoin could rise to $50,000 around Valentine's Day, although the price of an asset usually becomes cautious if the price of an asset rises like this over a long period of time.
