Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Israel of trying to ignite a war of planning attacks on US forces in Iraq.
Zarif said on Twitter, "New intelligence information from Iraq indicates that Israeli instigators are planning to launch attacks on Americans, to put (President Donald) outgoing Trump in trouble in front of a false cause for war."
He added, "Beware of the trap, Donald Trump, any fireworks will seriously backfire."
Zarif's accusation comes at a time when Iran continues to threaten to respond to any possible American aggression and prepare for all scenarios, and Iranian officials have repeated over the past few days statements promising revenge as the first anniversary of the killing of Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani is commemorated.
