Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The number of confirmed new corona infections in Rhineland-Palatinate rose by 544 within one day.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 73,921 cases have been registered, as the Ministry of Health in Mainz announced on Saturday.

The number of reported patients who died in connection with the virus infection rose within 24 hours by 13 to 1466 (as of 11:10 a.m.).

According to the ministry, 18,364 people from Rhineland-Palatinate are currently infected with Sars-CoV-2.

Because of the weekend, however, not all health authorities reported data.

The seven-day incidence - the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days - was 118.6 nationwide.

Speyer had the highest value with 267, the lowest in the Altenkirchen district with 48.1.

According to the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi), 215 corona patients were last treated in hospitals in intensive care units in Rhineland-Palatinate (as of Friday, 12.15 p.m.).

That corresponded to 25 percent of all intensive care beds occupied.

106 of the Covid 19 patients were ventilated.

The number of corona vaccinations is now over 5000. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 5112 doses of the vaccine were administered by January 1 (as of 12.30 p.m.).
