Heidenheim (dpa / lsw) - 1. FC Heidenheim has continued its impressive home series against 1. FC Nürnberg.

In the first game of the new year, the team of coach Frank Schmidt won 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday and thus moved closer to the promotions of the 2nd Bundesliga.

Denis Thomalla (45th minute + 1) and Patrick Mainka (76th) scored with their goals for the victory of Heidenheim, who have been without defeat in their own stadium for 15 months.

In the 90th minute, FCN coach Robert Klauß saw the red card after kicking a water bottle out of frustration at a referee's decision.

Shortly before, Adam Zrelak's (88th) supposed goal was not given because of Manuel Schäffler's offside position.

Nürnberg got off to a good start and had the first chance to score in the 10th minute through Robin Hack, who failed with his shot at FCH goalkeeper Kevin Müller.

Then an intense game developed between two compact teams, and the Heidenheimers needed a strong individual action to overcome the club's defense.

With a fine chip ball, Dzenis Burnic found Thomalla, who was lurking in the penalty area, who picked up the ball and pushed it into the goal.

Even afterwards, the guests found it difficult to find gaps in the FCH defense.

Instead, Mainka increased after a corner on the first post with a head to the final score.
