Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to the wishes of the parents' representatives, day-care centers in Baden-Württemberg should return to regular operations under pandemic conditions from January 11th.

This included, for example, hygiene concepts, monitoring the number of cases and the closure of daycare centers in the event of corona outbreaks, announced the state parents' representative for Baden-Württemberg child day care centers (LEBK-BW) at the turn of the year.

The closings of the daycare centers would not have had the desired effect in reducing the number of infections.

In addition, according to studies, children do not seem to be "infection drivers", as it was said.

Rather, the LEBK-BW emphasized the rights of children to education and social participation.

"Children need regulated and reliable structures for their development," it said in the message.

"We are concerned that the discussion about the reopening of daycare centers under pandemic conditions as an election campaign issue is being conducted in an undifferentiated and one-sided manner."

The election campaign should not be carried out on the backs of the children and their families, warned the state parents' representative, which is an amalgamation of several chairmen of parent councils from daycare centers across Baden-Württemberg.

Baden-Württemberg's Minister of Education, Susanne Eisenmann (CDU), wants kindergartens and elementary schools to reopen from January 11th.

Others like SPD leader Saskia Esken consider this to be "downright irresponsible".

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the prime ministers of the federal states want to decide this Tuesday whether and in what form the lockdown will continue.
