Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin announced on Friday that 6,650 people had been fined for non-compliance with the curfew on New Year's Eve.

662 people were also arrested.

In total, the police carried out more than 45,000 checks on the night of December 31.

On New Year's Eve, marked by a few incidents and clandestine parties, the police arrested 662 people and issued 6,650 verbalizations for non-compliance with the curfew, said Friday the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin .

During the night, 25 police officers and gendarmes injured, said Mr. Darmanin, by bringing "all his support to the personnel injured in the exercise of their function as well as to their relatives".

More than 45,000 checks

"Even if the incidents were less important than in previous years" of "individuals took to task, sometimes in a very violent way with the use of fireworks, the police," said the minister in a communicated.

In addition to the "662 arrests", "407 individuals" were placed in police custody, he added. 

The police also carried out "45,400 checks" and issued "6,650 fines for non-compliance with the curfew", detailed the minister.

He welcomed "that the curfew has been particularly respected in Paris, the usual place of gatherings".
