Friday evening, the deadline for receiving the nomination applications for candidates for membership of the Advisory Committee emanating from the Libyan Political Forum expired.
The UN mission in Libya extended the deadline for receiving applications to recommend candidates to the advisory committee to ten o'clock Friday evening, Libyan time.
On Wednesday, the UN Acting Envoy to Libya, Stephanie Williams, obligated the Forum for Political Dialogue to submit proposed names to an advisory committee of members of the forum within two days.
"I think we need to form an advisory committee of 15 participants in the dialogue forum, to help us and help you reach consensus on these contentious issues," Williams said at the time.
The advisory committee consists of 15 members from the Libyan Political Forum, with each member receiving a recommendation of 3 members from the forum.
The UN mission stipulated the membership of the Consultative Committee, taking into account geographical diversity and the participation of women, youth and components.
A source from the Al-Jazeera Political Dialogue Forum said that the advisory committee will work to solve the problems related to the mechanism for selecting the executive authority.
The source added that the advisory committee will present recommendations on its work to the Libyan Political Forum to come up with a consensual solution.
In turn, the head of the European Union delegation in Libya, Sabadell José, said that the coming weeks will be crucial for Libya.
Jose confirmed in a tweet on Twitter that the European Union stands with the Libyans in their quest to achieve peace and dignity, stressing that strengthening the ceasefire, economic recovery and preparing for elections are among the main priorities of the European Union and its countries.
On December 18, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced the formation of a legal committee, consisting of members of the Political Dialogue Forum, to draft a law for the elections scheduled for late 2021.
In mid-November, the Libyan Dialogue Forum announced an agreement to hold general elections in December 2021.
For years, Libya has been suffering from a split in the legislative and executive bodies, which resulted in an armed conflict that claimed civilian lives, in addition to tremendous material damage.
