Jordan: Exemption of expatriates from 80% of fines for non-renewal of work permits

Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, the Egyptian Minister of Manpower, Muhammad Saafan, said that he received a report through the Ministry’s Labor Representation Office at the Egyptian Embassy in Amman, Jordan, indicating a decision by the Jordanian Cabinet to exempt 80% of the fines for non-renewal of expatriate work permits.

The head of the Egyptian Labor Representation Office in Amman, the Labor Attaché, Talaat Al-Sayed, indicated that the Jordanian Cabinet decided to exempt 80% of the fines for non-renewal of work permits for non-Jordanians wishing to stay on the kingdom's lands, which had expired more than 90 days, until January 31, 2021.

He said: The decision includes the fines stipulated in Article (6) of the Non-Jordanian Work Permits Fees Regulation No. (142) of 2019, which states that “a delay fine of 50% of the value of the work permit fee shall be levied upon the expiration of the period of Work permit and not to renew it within 90 days from the date of expiry.

To benefit from the exemption, it is required that the fees for renewing the permit be paid before the aforementioned period.

The decision comes with the aim of reducing the economic impacts on private sector employers, helping them bear the burdens imposed on them as a result of the Corona pandemic, continuing the process of organizing the labor market, ensuring commitment to issuing permits for non-Jordanian workers, and limiting the employment of workers in violation of the provisions of the labor law.
