Hamburg (AP) - Second division soccer club Hamburger SV complains of its first injuries after the short Christmas break.

Midfielder Klaus Gjasula tore an inner ligament in his right knee during training and is not available to HSV for a few weeks, said coach Daniel Thioune on New Year's Day in the Hanseatic city.

Defender Jan Gyamerah also suffered an ankle injury, but will have “a shorter downtime” than his team-mate Gjasula.

"This is of course not good news," emphasized Thioune, who initially wants to make up for the failures with the existing staff.

"First and foremost, I work with the players who are there," said the HSV coach and promised some high-class reservists more working time.

This could already be the case with Gideon Jung in the home game on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) against Jahn Regensburg.

On the other hand, HSV sports director Jonas Boldt and sports director Michael Mutzel are closely monitoring the market.

"And of course you can talk about anything that makes us better," said Thioune in view of the reopening of the transfer window about possible reinforcements.
