Unterharles (dpa) - A missing father and his five-year-old son were found dead in a forest in southern Thuringia.
A hiker found the two at Unterharles near the border with Bavaria on Thursday afternoon, the police said in the evening.
The investigators of the Suhl Criminal Police Office therefore assume that the five-year-old was the victim of a violent crime.
According to initial findings, the father killed himself afterwards, it said.
The 44-year-old from nearby Bauerbach and his son have been missing since December 19.
They drove away in a car at noon.
On Wednesday, the police also asked the public for help in finding the two.
The hiker also discovered the described car in the forest on Thursday, the police said.
The location is a few kilometers from the man's place of residence.
The corpses are now to be autopsied.
