Erlangen (dpa / lby) - The number of new corona infections in Bavaria rose by 3743 on New Year's Day.

This was announced by the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) in Erlangen.

On Friday last week, also a public holiday, 2,758 cases were reported.

The number of deaths rose by 52 to 6,766 since Thursday.

The Robert Koch Institute pointed out, however, that interpreting the data is currently difficult.

During the holidays and around the turn of the year, fewer people are likely to be tested and not all offices may submit their data.

According to LGL information in Bavaria, the number of new corona infections in the past seven days per 100,000 inhabitants is 166.21.

The LGL has counted 328 755 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Bavaria since the beginning of the pandemic (as of January 1, 8 a.m.).
