At least 15 people were killed in an explosion in the North Korean city of Hisan, adjacent to the border with China, and others were seriously injured.

According to foreign media, the explosion lit the sky of this border city, in North Korea, on August 5, 2020, in what is believed to be a gas leak.

According to the "Daily NK" newspaper, which is based in the South Korean capital, Seoul, "a number of people died in the explosion, and a large fire broke out in a house in the city of Hisan, Yangang Province."

The newspaper added that the explosion "destroyed an entire section of the harmonica houses, leaving nothing of value whatsoever inside them, and dozens of people were injured in the explosion."

The Associated Press reported that "at least 30 people were injured as a result of this explosion."

10 others were injured.

The head of the Organization and Guidance Department of the Communist Party Committee in Hessan led the efforts to clean up the debris from the site of the accident, in cooperation with the local and government authorities, and teams from the Ministry of Social Security in the city were also dispatched to the site of the accident, to prevent local residents from approaching the site.

The teams have reportedly confiscated cell phones, for anyone attempting to take pictures of the destroyed buildings.

A video clip showed the outbreak of a huge fire, punctuated by several successive explosions, that emitted smoke and columns of flames in the sky of North Korea, and it is worth noting that the official media in North Korea did not mention anything about this incident in all visible and readable media.

The video, taken by the Associated Press, shows orange flames and black smoke in the sky from Hessan, while loud sounds like an explosion were heard.

The Associated Press verified the site, after examining other tourist videos of the park, showing the same structures and lights.

Subsequently, the North Korean authorities refused to provide "compensation" to the victims of the explosions, claiming that these explosions were caused by "negligence" of the people.

An investigation into the accident has begun, with the North Korean Social Security Ministry office claiming that a person has been arrested and is being questioned.
