Due to the pandemic, all the country's cathedrals have a special bell ringing on New Year's Eve.

The bells ring for ten minutes starting at 18.00.

This is to remember and honor those who died during this pandemic year.

- The bell ringing is extra important this year as many have left us and funerals have not happened as usual due to the restrictions, says Antje Jackelén, Archbishop of the Church of Sweden.

In addition to the cathedrals, more churches join the common ringing, including St. Raghild's Church, All Saints' Church, Ytterenhörna Church and Nykvarn Church.

This is stated by Länstidningen.

First time

The pandemic has claimed over 8,000 lives in Sweden.

It is the first time in modern times that the church bells ring at the same time to draw attention to something that has affected the whole country.
