Dresden / Leipzig (dpa) - The Saxons face the turn of the year under pandemic conditions on Thursday.

In the Free State, as everywhere in Germany, no fireworks were allowed to be sold.

In addition, a number of municipalities such as Dresden, Chemnitz or the Erzgebirgskreis have issued complete bans on firecrackers.

Saxony's largest city, Leipzig, has only banned fireworks in three zones.

A gathering ban applies in the trade fair city.

After the New Year's Eve riots in the Connewitz district last year, the Leipzig police are planning another major police operation.

The enforcement of the Corona rules and the avoidance of crowds are in the foreground, the police said.

Unlike at Christmas, the contact restrictions on New Year's Eve in Saxony have not been relaxed.

A maximum of five people from two households are allowed to meet.

The curfew will be lifted on New Year's Eve between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The ban on alcohol in public as well as the distance and mask regulations continue to apply.
