And it will produce 50 million cubic feet per day, indicating that the Emirate of Sharjah needs 200 million cubic feet per day during the winter period, while during the summer it will reach 500 million cubic feet, and work is currently underway to increase drilling operations to reach the stage of self-sufficiency in gas over the years. His Highness explained Sharjah's efforts in supporting the people of the emirate, advancing his knowledge and thought, providing a decent life and spreading reassurance and familiarity among members of society through a number of scientific and cultural projects that the emirate has adopted during the past 50 years.

His Highness touched on a number of vital projects that cover various energy sectors, including the electricity sector, as many stations have been developed, supplied with turbines, and expanded in a way that contributes to the continued production of electricity over the next ten years smoothly and smoothly.

As for the water sector, His Highness indicated that it is one of the most important priorities, as it is difficult to find alternatives for it if it is not prepared for, and Sharjah has worked on a project to store water through lakes, such as Khorfakkan Lake and Owainat Lake, which will be three times larger than Lake Dam. Al-Rafisah, Kalba Lake, and Dhaid Lake, which will be at the entrance to Al Dhaid, and in the Wishah region and Al Madinah in Maliha and Al Fali, and these lakes will contribute to preserving water, in addition to a scientific project that will serve the emirate’s vision and aspirations in securing water by storing it in large tanks under the surface of the earth.

His Highness pointed out that the Emirate of Sharjah has adopted many initiatives that contribute to providing the requirements of a decent life, including the Social Security project, through which it seeks to provide appropriate income for its citizens.

Among the initiatives of social security is the establishment of companies with some kind of partnership between the government and institutions, and the citizen will be part of this project.

The government's share of these companies is 51%, where it can manage them.

His Highness presented a set of advice to Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority employees that would serve the work and through uniting efforts to achieve the desired goals and aspirations, wishing them success and creativity in performing their duties and moving forward in the service of Sharjah.

His Highness was inspecting the project of expanding and developing the Layyah power plant, with a capacity of 1026 megawatts, by the combined cycle system, which is being implemented by the authority in three stages, with a total value of 2.050 billion dirhams.

He directed the authority to intensify its efforts and complete the first phase with a capacity of 345 megawatts, and to operate it in October 2021.

His Highness listened to an explanation from the Chairman of the Authority, Saeed Sultan Al-Suwaidi, about the project phases, civil and construction works, project facilities, work progress in them, and the most prominent completed stages.

His Highness was briefed on the progress of work in terms of design and implementation and taking into account security, safety and environmental conditions, directing that all measures be taken to ensure that the increasing demand for electricity is met, in line with the development of economic and civilization growth in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The expansion project includes the construction of a new station to generate electricity using natural gas as a fuel, consisting of a group to generate electricity that includes: two gas turbines, two thermal energy recovery boilers, one steam turbine, and besides generating electric power, the project will use the steam produced on site to desalinate water. The project is implemented in three phases, the first phase with a capacity of 345 megawatts, and it will be operational during October 2021, the second phase 345 megawatts, and it is planned to be completed during January 2022, and the third phase with a capacity of 336 megawatts, and it is planned to be completed during July 2022.
