The Italian authorities deem "unacceptable" the decision of the Egyptian prosecution to release the four National Security agents implicated by the Rome prosecution in the murder of Giulio Regeni, an Italian student killed at the age of 28 in January 2016 in Cairo.

With our correspondent in Rome,

Anne Le Nir,

It is a new twist which, this time, makes the Italian government react immediately.

Indeed, the Egyptian Attorney General, Hamada Al-Sawy, considers, I quote, that there is "

no need to pursue an action

 in a criminal court

for the murder of Giulio Regeni, because the author is unknown" .

The Foreign Ministry, headed by Luigi di Maio, has announced that it will continue to

"act at all levels, including the European Union, so that the truth about Giulio Regeni's murder finally emerges".

For their part, the parents of the Italian student, who died as a result of atrocious torture suffered for nine days, have not made a public statement.

But, like them, the whole of Italy has been waiting for truth and justice for nearly five years.

In January 2016, Italian student Giulio Regeni, then 28, was kidnapped by strangers and his body was found tortured and excruciatingly mutilated a few days later in the suburbs of Cairo.
